Area Calculations
Calculate survey parcel areas from coordinates, triangle dimensions, or bearing-and-distance traverse observations.
Area from Coordinates
Enter parcel or traverse vertices in boundary order. The calculator applies the shoelace (coordinate) method and automatically closes the polygon.
Boundary Coordinates
Minimum 3 points. Enter points consecutively around the boundary (clockwise or counter-clockwise). Do not repeat the first point; the calculator closes it automatically.
Triangle Area
Calculate a triangle area using either three side lengths (Heron's formula) or base and perpendicular height.
Three Sides — Heron's Formula
Base × Perpendicular Height
Area from Bearing & Distance Traverse
Enter a starting coordinate and each traverse line's whole-circle bearing and distance. The calculator computes successive coordinates and the enclosed area.
Starting Point
Traverse Lines
Use whole-circle bearings measured clockwise from North. Enter one line per boundary side.
| Line | Bearing (°) | Distance | Remove |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | |||
| 2 | |||
| 3 | |||
| 4 |
For a closed traverse, the final computed point should return to the starting point within normal survey tolerance. The calculator reports closure error instead of silently forcing closure.
Area reference
Coordinate areas are reported as absolute enclosed area. The sign of the raw shoelace sum is retained internally to identify traversal orientation, while the displayed area is always positive.
